My name is Troy Bate.

The crusade began as most crusades of this nature begin. In someone's backyard. My backyard is located on the Wasatch Front of Salt Lake City Utah. However it wasn't long before this car made it's way to the Elite Custom Autobody shop of KINDIG-IT DESIGN.

With the budget thrown to the mercies of company sponsorships and scraping pennies; We took my blue prints of ideas and coupled them with the almost uncontrolable immagination of Dave Kindig, and the unbelievably detailed hand of expertise from Mike Tidwell and carved out a cartoon figure now known as the DUBBUG.

Resume:

Year(s) Make & Model

·      1956 Oval  (roof)

o      This 56 was found hacked up into the form of a Baja far off in a field.

o      The top, original oval rear window and original full-length ragtop sunroof, fortunately were in excellent condition.

·      1960 Beetle (body)

o      Straight & very clean 60 body used to graft into the rare 56 oval rag.

o      Deck Lid switched with rare 56 W deck lid.

·      1971 IRS Chassis

o      71 IRS (independent rear suspension) pan used for the highest quality suspension and handling.

o      Chassis holds a 190 horsepower 2017 cc motor.

 Modifications

Ø    Body & Roof

·      When grafting the 56 top to the 60 body the roof was chopped a un-heard-of six (6) inches. While removing 6 inches the original 56 oval window and original rag remained their original size.  To do this required the roof to be widened and lengthened as it was chopped.  This required the use of five (5) other VW Bug roofs.

·      Original 56 metal deck lid was modified by sculpturing (welding) the pope-nose to deck lid.

·      Suicide doors with hidden hinges and radius corners eliminating right angles.

·      All handles, doors, trunk, and deck lid, shaved.

·      Solenoids added for remote control door opening capabilities.

·      Chrome moldings completely removed and smoothed.

Ø    Fenders

·      Two (2) inch widened fiberglass fenders.

·      All fenders raked in to follow continued radius of tires and to resemble 33 roadster.  Running boards modified to match fender modifications.

·      Fenders have been tear dropped on all four corners of car to enhance ground effects.

·      Front fenders have been reshaped and sculptured to house original VW headlights from the back of fender, creating a frenched-in seamless appearance.  German fluted lenses used giving the final touch to a headlight and mount resembling the 2002 Mercedes CLK.

·      LED lense material has been added and sculptured to the rear fenders in the tail light position.   While not only being completely hidden to touch, these tail lights are also hiding behind 3 coats of color never to be seen until the LED is turned on; mounted from behind.

·      3rd LED brake light hidding inside grill under the oval window.

Ø    Interior

·      Dashboard, doors, and rear quarters have all been sculptured with fiberglass to create a round seamless mold from front to back.

·      Back seat pulled from a 96 Mitsubishi Eclipse.  Front seats from Corbeau.

·      Fiberglass sculptured speaker panels.

·      Everything wrapped in bone color leather.

·      Mercedes bone color carpet.

Ø    Chassis

·      1971 IRS chassis modified with a customized air-bag suspension.

·      Rear axles have added arms to support 2,500 lb airbags.

·      Front beam has added mounting brackets to take the Dubbug from ground zero to twelve (12) inches of clearance.

·      Airlift set-up controlled with remote to valves, compressor, and tanks.

·      Chassis is backed by a 190 horsepower 2017 cc motor with dual 44 Weber carbs.

 Custom Paint

·      House of Kolors Tangelo Shimmering is a blinding pearl essence enhanced gorgeous orange.

·      While the color alone is enough to stop the show, weve added a ghostly Hawaiian tribal band that begins at the front and makes its way around the car to finish up in the rear.  The design was done freehand making it unique on each side.  The color has a hint of copper to give it a shade darker than the rest of the car.

·      4 coats of color with 6 coats of clear.

 Electronics

·      Dakota Digital heads up the dash with its billet dash plate and its blue illuminated gauges.  Backed by Street Rod wiring harness and fuse block.

·      The stereo system is tuned by Alpine & Audio Control, powered by Macintosh, driven by MB Quart, and most importantly wired with Kimber Kables silver wires.

·      All of course professionally installed by #2 in the nation Troy Bushman.

·     Must see & hear to believe.

 Wheels

·      All this supported by Colorado Customs built Apex billet wheels.

·      Seventeen (17) inch wheels up front.

·      Twenties (the dubs) in the rear.

·      Wrapped in Dunlop tires
